Smith, Esq . was elected chairman of the Board. Dr. ( irissom sent in the following ° letter: X. C. INSANE ASYLUM, RALEIGH, X. C., Aug. 22, 1880. To the Board of Directors X. C. Insane \sylum: GEKTLEMEN :—Under the circum stances I feel it my duty to tender my resignation of the office of Su perintendent of the Xorth Carolina insane Asylum. Owing to the inability and conse quent absence from duty of the As ' sistant Physician, my immediate de parlure would leave the institution without any medical care, and being unwilling to prejudice, in the least degree, the interests of the Asylum, it is agreeable to me. if it is the wish of the Board, to remain until my successor i* appointed and installed, to whom it will afford me great pleasure to give full information re specting every detail of management and in regard to every case in t tie Asylum, and to aid him in evrey way ito enter upon the successful dis charge of his duties (Signed) EUGENE GIUSSOV The Board accepted the resigna tion as tendered. It rained in honor of such an occasion, but the dampness of tiie atmosphere threw no damper upon the pleasure of the night The crowd was of a nice ° proportion and every one enjoyed the pleasures of extreme sociability. About 11:30 the genial and ac complished host—Mr. Loughran — Invited the dancers into a cosy, pri vfite dining room and sat them ... down to sand witches, pickles, sweet meats, etc. One gets hungry dauc ing till the wee small hours of the morning and Mr. Loughrau won the hearts of the crowd with avery ac ceptable lunch. C., September 24, 25, 26, 27, IKB9. In presenting this the Fifth An nual Premium List of this Associa tion we are glad to state to the peo ple the grand success we had at the Fair held on our new improved grounds Jast year, and thank the patrons for their liberal patronage ] in the past and hope they will con tinue to aid in building up this most I worthy enterprise of agricultural interest, which has done so much good for our county and State. We especially call 011 all the farmers and Farmers' Alliances and Grangers t) take an active part in this enter prise, as it is for the up building and advancement of all classes, es pecially the farmers, who can meet together annually and bring of their iirst fruits of their flock and farm products as an annual offering and rejoicing together of their gifts giv | en to them. This Association will do everything in its power to do justice to all classes, that no one may go home from the Fair dissatisfied. It is not be cause the business has not been at- , tended with success—but that one branch of the firm prefer another business. The business has always 1 been successful. Hover, the labor agitator, who has caused much j trouble in the South lor some years, J returned to Hickory last Friday night. His wife has been divorced t from him and refused to admit him to her house, whereupon Mr. Hover forced an entrance ami whipped her. He was promptly brought before Mayor Hall to answer for his con- , duct, and was fined Slo or thirty days in tiie "boose."
